A Significant Milestone in Two Wineries' Climate Action Efforts

We are delighted to announce that two of our Applicant members have achieved Silver Member status, having completed a baseline, third-party verified GHG inventory across Scopes 1, 2, and 3. Congratulations to Champagnes Piper-Heidsieck, Rare & Charles Heidsieck (Champagne, France) and Ste. Michelle Wine Estates (Washington, USA)!

Says Charlotte Hey, IWCA’s Executive Director: “We are proud to have such great viticultural names in to our community of wine producers who are at the forefront of climate action in the wine sector. Their efforts in carbon emissions reduction and their commitment to spreading the word about the importance of our mission is evident.”

This brings the total number of IWCA Silver Members to 23. All IWCA Silver Members are committed to the same goal: reducing their GHG emissions to reach Net Zero by 2050. As part of this, they regularly conduct third-party verified GHG inventories to understand their progress and priorities areas for action (learn more about what it means to be an IWCA member here!).

The Champagne Houses Piper-Heidsieck, Charles Heidsieck & Rare Champagne have been based in Reims in the heart of Champagne for several centuries. They produce Champagne while perpetuating a traditional know-how in order to ensure the excellence and authenticity of the wines. A quest for excellence leads them to constantly innovate, considering the environment and the people in order to offer the best quality for their consumers. They are engaged in excellence in viticultural practices. They aim to reduce the environmental impact of their activities (-61% of their carbon footprint for Scopes 1 & 2 and -46% / bottle produced for Scope 3 by 2030), achieve net-zero carbon emissions before 2050, and integrate sustainability into every project and decision-making.
