International Wineries for Climate Action (IWCA) is delighted to announce leading Portuguese producer Esporão as a new Silver member of IWCA.

Esporão has recently become a silver member of IWCA, following the approval of its 2024 emissions inventory by the organization’s Inventory Review Committee.
This recognition validates the consistent work carried out across the company in measuring, reducing, and transparently reporting its greenhouse gas emissions.
Esporão has followed a consistent path of implementing organic and sustainable agricultural practices since 2007, focusing on promoting biodiversity, soil health, and efficient water use. The company has been investing in reducing its carbon footprint through the use of renewable energy, improving energy efficiency, rigorous monitoring of emissions (Scopes 1, 2, and 3), and adopting technical solutions aligned with carbon‑neutrality goals for 2050.
As an IWCA Silver Member, Esporão also joins, for the first time, the United Nations Race to Zero initiative, which brings together organizations committed to absolute emissions reductions and science‑aligned climate targets.
José Luis Moreira da Silva, CEO of Esporão, states: “This recognition from IWCA confirms the consistent work we have been developing over the past years. Measuring, reporting, and reducing our emissions is a demanding exercise, but essential to ensuring the future of our project and the territories where we operate. We believe climate action must be concrete, impactful, and collaborative.”
The IWCA Silver Member status is valid until January 2027 and represents another step in Esporão’s ambition to produce wines and olive oils of excellence, respecting the planet’s limits and actively contributing to climate‑change mitigation.
IWCA is a rapidly growing collective of wine-producing companies present in 14 countries across the globe. Representing approximately 3.5% of global wine production, its members form a unified voice for change, promoting reduction in carbon emissions and setting the standard for decarbonization internationally. The organization’s certification is recognized globally with retailers and industry professionals and authenticates winery action to promote emission reduction.
