Chile’s leading wine producer gains prestigious IWCA Gold Member status.

International Wineries for Climate Action (IWCA) is delighted to announce that Miguel Torres Chile, a leading Chilean wine company, has achieved Gold Member status by completed Scopes 1-3.

Their efforts in ensuring that winemaking operations are powered by at least 20% renewable energy on site and demonstrating a consistent reduction of emissions per liter of wine means that they are the second Chilean winery to gain the highest standards in carbon emission reduction.

Commenting on their new status, Jaime Valderrama, Director General of Miguel Torres Chile, said, “We are honored by the recognition bestowed upon us today by the IWCA. It marks a significant milestone, consolidating years of dedicated work in sustainability and our ongoing efforts to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This acknowledgment further strengthens our commitment to achieving our targets: a 50% reduction in GHG emissions by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050,” stated Jaime Valderrama, General Director of Miguel Torres Chile.

Miguel Torres Chile joins eleven existing Gold Members at IWCA – Alma Carraovejas, C.V.N.E., Family Torres, Henschke, Hill Smith Family Estate, Jackson Family Estates, Spottswoode Estate Vineyard & Winery, VSPT Wine Group, Undurraga, Viña Familia Gil and Yealands Estate Wines – and 40+ other Silver and Applicant Members who are international quality wine producers across 11 different countries. In total, IWCA represents 170+ wineries who are at the forefront of carbon emission reduction in the wine sector worldwide.

“It is with great pleasure that we welcome Miguel Torres Chile into IWCA’s Gold Member category,” said Katie Jackson, President of the IWCA. “As the first international winemaking company to invest in Chile, its achievement in attaining Gold Member status reinforces IWCA's presence in the region. As vintners, we are profoundly affected by the impacts of climate change; our obligation to future generations is to act decisively and without delay. We hope to see many more wineries, both domestic and abroad, join our mission to accelerate the decarbonization of the global wine industry.”

The IWCA Annual Report is published each November showcasing members’ individual efforts in their journey to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, giving an exclusive snapshot of how wineries are adopting innovative practices in the face of climate change. It is an essential read for commentators, opinion-formers, buyers, and fellow winery owners who appreciate the real need to tackle the climate crisis in the context of the long-term sustainability of the wine industry.
