International Wineries for Climate Action (IWCA) Annual Report – “Profit with Purpose: carbon

emission reduction can future proof the wine business” – launched today, highlights the commercial and business benefits that derive from putting carbon emission reduction at the heart of corporate strategy.



The 2025 IWCA Annual Report celebrates a significant milestone in its climate leadership journey, now representing 175 member wineries across six continents and maintaining 3.5% of total global wine production.


Over the past 12 months, IWCA has increased its Gold Member count from 9 to 18, underscoring the growing importance of renewable energy and carbon reduction in the wine sector. This expansion reflects

the wine industry’s accelerating commitment to sustainability, innovation, and climate resilience.



Climate action is no longer a trend—it is a structural shift. Those who embrace it early will define the future of wine.



Emphasizing the wine industry’s vulnerability to climate volatility—from rising temperatures to erratic weather—and the urgent need for innovation. IWCA members are leading the way by adopting low- carbon technologies, optimizing energy use, and rethinking supply chains. These efforts not only reduce emissions but also deliver measurable financial returns.


The business case for decarbonization continues to strengthen. Consumers are seeking wines that reflect their values, retailers and distributors are prioritizing producers with credible sustainability credentials, and governments are introducing policies that reward low-carbon operations. Wineries that act now will be better positioned to thrive—not just survive.

Founded on the principles of science, transparency, and collaboration, IWCA members of the most respected wineries in the world—have committed to rigorous carbon accounting and ambitious emissions reduction targets. This movement is not only about environmental stewardship; it’s about building smarter, more resilient businesses.


In 2025 IWCA welcomed new members from South Africa and Germany for the first time, launched its first Latin American GHG calculator, a landmark achievement made possible by the collaborative spirit of members in Argentina and Chile. The organization also hosted impactful Knowledge Exchange Sessions, including seminars with Scandinavian monopolies and Race to Zero, and participated in global events such as, Barcelona Wine Week (Spain), AWITC (Australia) and Prowein (Germany).


Members are increasingly recognizing sustainability as a catalyst for innovation. From energy-efficient cellar operations to regenerative vineyard practices, wineries are discovering that environmental responsibility and profitability go hand in hand. Many report cost savings improved operational efficiency, and stronger brand loyalty as direct outcomes of their climate strategies.
